Philosophy

The most central idea in my therapeutic work is that therapy is not simply about fixing a problem; it is about understanding how the issues at hand came to be and learning ways to become an even stronger version of yourself. Accordingly, in addition to providing you with emotional support and insight into relevant issues and/or problems you may be facing, another goal of treatment is to provide you with tools and different coping strategies. I strive to leave my patients with a feeling of empowerment and emotional competency and believe that with the proper insight and skills, each patient can learn to feel effective in his or her own life.

By utilizing an integrative, strength-based approach, I am able to help individuals tap into their own strengths in order to explore possibilities for change and growth. I draw from many different therapeutic techniques including, but not limited to, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (i.e., working to find the balance between acceptance and change in order to learn and practice skills that help you reach your goals), Interpersonal Therapy (i.e., focusing on your current and past relationships with others), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (i.e., focusing on the way you think about things and how this might affect your feelings and impressions of other people). These are all are psychological techniques and interventions that have been thoroughly researched and shown to be effective for a variety of diagnoses.
